Pakistan and Iraq have taken a significant step to enhance bilateral economic cooperation. Both nations signed a protocol during the 9th session of the Pakistan-Iraq Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) held in Baghdad. Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan co-chaired the session alongside his Iraqi counterpart on Tuesday.

The session focused on creating a strategic roadmap for mutual collaboration across various sectors. This protocol underlines the shared commitment to strengthen ties in trade, education, health, and tourism. The commerce ministry described the agreement as a landmark moment in bilateral relations.

Boosting Trade and Industrial Collaboration

The JMC deliberated on enhancing economic and trade relations. The protocol promotes joint ventures in garments, pharmaceuticals, and agriculture sectors. Both countries agreed to collaborate on export processing zones and reconstruction projects in Iraq. Pakistan’s focus on exporting manpower and labor for Iraq’s rebuilding efforts was a key highlight of the discussions.

Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan emphasized the immense potential for economic cooperation between the two nations. He stressed the importance of creating opportunities in trade and investment.

“We aim to unlock economic growth through stronger bilateral ties,” he said.

Religious Tourism and Cultural Exchange

Religious tourism emerged as a vital area of cooperation. Both sides agreed to facilitate Pakistani pilgrims visiting holy sites in Iraq. The session emphasized easing travel restrictions and improving tourism infrastructure to attract more visitors.

Cultural exchange programs will also be launched to foster deeper ties between the two nations. The initiative seeks to promote mutual understanding and goodwill through educational and cultural partnerships.

Health and Education Partnerships

The protocol included significant provisions to strengthen health and education sectors. Pakistan will offer scholarships for Iraqi students pursuing higher education. The countries also agreed to collaborate in vaccine production, healthcare, and biotechnology training.

These partnerships aim to transfer knowledge and technology, benefiting both nations. The focus remains on empowering Iraq’s workforce with training and expertise in critical sectors.

Facilitating Foreign Investment and Visa Reforms

Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to attracting foreign investment. He highlighted recent reforms aimed at creating a business-friendly environment. He urged Iraq to simplify visa processes for Pakistani entrepreneurs and investors.

These reforms are expected to encourage greater economic activity between the two nations. Pakistan remains keen on fostering an environment that supports trade and business collaboration.

Strategic Roadmap for Future Growth

The protocol sets the stage for a long-term partnership between Pakistan and Iraq. It outlines a clear strategy to enhance cooperation across various fields. Both nations aim to achieve sustainable growth by leveraging each other’s strengths.

This agreement is expected to pave the way for stronger economic and cultural ties. It underscores the importance of mutual respect and collaboration in fostering regional stability.

The JMC session concluded with optimism for a prosperous future. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to achieving shared goals through joint efforts and strategic planning.
