Iran Alerts UN Over Trump’s Threat Of Force, Says It Will Defend Itself
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Iran has formally alerted the United Nations Security Council about what it calls “reckless and inflammatory statements” made by former U.S. President Donald Trump. Tehran warned that any aggressive action would have severe consequences, holding Washington fully responsible for any escalation.

In a letter to the UN, Iran’s Permanent Representative Amir Saeid Iravani criticized Trump’s recent remarks in interviews. Trump expressed a preference for diplomatic negotiations but also suggested military action as an option to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.

“These reckless and inflammatory statements flagrantly violate international law and the UN Charter,” Iravani stated in the letter. “The Islamic Republic of Iran warns that any act of aggression will have severe consequences, for which the U.S. will bear full responsibility.”

Iran Defends Sovereignty Amid U.S. Pressure

Trump recently reinstated his “maximum pressure” campaign, aiming to bring Iran’s oil exports to zero. The strategy seeks to limit Tehran’s ability to finance its nuclear program and regional activities. He also expressed a willingness to negotiate with Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian.

However, Iranian officials remain skeptical of U.S. intentions. Pezeshkian questioned Washington’s sincerity, while Iravani argued that U.S. actions are escalating hostilities rather than fostering diplomatic solutions.

“The U.S. policy reinforces unlawful, unilateral coercive measures and escalates hostility against Iran,” Iravani wrote to the UN Security Council. He urged the body to condemn Trump’s rhetoric, calling it a clear violation of international norms.

Concerns Over Iran’s Nuclear Advancements

Iran has repeatedly denied seeking nuclear weapons but has significantly increased uranium enrichment. The UN’s nuclear watchdog reported in December that Iran was enriching uranium up to 60% purity, just below the 90% threshold needed for weapons-grade material.

Western nations have expressed alarm over these developments, fearing that Tehran is inching closer to nuclear capability. The Biden administration had attempted to revive the 2015 nuclear deal, but negotiations stalled. With Trump reasserting pressure, tensions between Washington and Tehran are expected to rise further.

Regional and Global Implications

Iran’s warning to the UN signals growing concerns over a potential conflict. The Gulf region remains volatile, with proxy forces aligned with Tehran engaged in confrontations with U.S. allies. Any escalation could destabilize global energy markets and increase military tensions in the Middle East.

Iran insists that it will defend its sovereignty and national interests against any hostile actions. “Iran will resolutely defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national interests against any hostile action,” Iravani warned.

As diplomatic efforts stall, the international community watches closely. The UN Security Council may face pressure to address the rising tensions before they lead to open conflict. Whether Washington and Tehran will pursue diplomacy or confrontation remains uncertain.
