Palestinian Refugees in Jordan Fear ‘New Nakba’ After Trump’s Displacement Plan
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Palestinian refugees in Jordan fear another mass displacement following US President Donald Trump’s plan to relocate Gaza’s population. Many refugees see this as a repeat of the Nakba, which displaced hundreds of thousands in 1948.

Life in Jerash Refugee Camp

Mohamed Ahmed Jafar, known as Abu Osama, fled the West Bank after Israel’s 1967 occupation. He now lives in the Jerash refugee camp, home to over 35,000 Palestinians. He insists Gazans will not leave their land despite difficult conditions.

“The people of Gaza are strong,” Abu Osama said. “Trump’s plan will not pass, and Palestine is ours.”

International Outrage Against Trump’s Proposal

Trump’s call to resettle Gazans elsewhere has drawn global criticism. Many countries, including Canada, France, Germany, and the UK, have condemned the idea. The plan follows Israel’s devastating war in Gaza, which killed over 48,200 people.

History of Displacement

Abu Osama recalls fleeing Gaza to Jordan when he was 19. Before 1967, his family lived in Beersheva but was forcibly displaced in 1948. He regrets leaving his homeland and urges Palestinians in Gaza to remain firm.

“If I were in Gaza now, I would stay even in a tent,” he said. “Palestinians are more resilient today than in 1967.”

Ongoing Crisis in Gaza

A ceasefire has been in place since January 19, temporarily halting Israel’s war on Gaza. However, the enclave remains in ruins. The International Criminal Court has issued arrest warrants for Israeli leaders on charges of war crimes.

Palestinians Refuse to Leave

Despite severe destruction, Abu Osama believes Gaza’s people will never accept forced relocation. “Trump’s plan will fail,” he said. “Gaza belongs to Palestinians.”

Israel is currently facing war crimes charges at the International Criminal Court. The International Court of Justice is also hearing a genocide case against Israel over its actions in Gaza.

Despite the ceasefire, Palestinian refugees fear that Trump’s displacement plan could lead to another humanitarian disaster. They remain committed to their right to stay on their land and resist any forced relocation.
