In response to a joint communiqué issued by NATO leaders on Tuesday, the Chinese Mission to the European Union (EU) vehemently opposed NATO’s “eastward expansion” into the Asia-Pacific region. The communique, which described China as a “systemic challenge,” was released at the conclusion of NATO’s two-day summit in Vilnius, Lithuania.

China Rejects NATO’s “Systemic Challenge” Label, Calls It Cold War Rhetoric

The Chinese Mission strongly refuted the claims made in the communique, denouncing it as repetitive rhetoric that reflects a Cold War mentality and ideological bias. The mission’s statement emphasized that the communique deliberately distorts China’s stance and policies, tarnishing its image. According to the mission, the communique disregards basic facts and fails to acknowledge China’s contributions to international peace and stability.

NATO’s Expansionist Ambitions Exposed, China Expresses Deep Concern

Highlighting the historical context, the spokesperson for the Chinese Mission criticized NATO’s track record, questioning its legitimacy in the present era. The spokesperson pointed out that instead of reflecting on its own responsibilities, NATO, as a regional military bloc, continues to unjustly accuse other countries and interfere in affairs beyond its borders. This behavior generates conflicts and reveals NATO’s hypocritical nature. China expressed deep concern over NATO’s expansionist ambitions and hegemonic motives, particularly as the communique reiterated NATO’s nuclear-armed alliance status, which exacerbates regional tensions.

China Urges NATO to Embrace Peace and Cooperation

China called on NATO to align with the prevailing global sentiments that prioritize peace, development, and cooperation. The Chinese Mission emphasized the need for NATO to listen to the just voices of the international community and play a constructive role in promoting world peace and stability. By correcting its misconceptions and abandoning the Cold War mindset, NATO could contribute positively to global affairs.

China Warns of Resolute Countermeasures Against Actions Undermining Its Interests

Issuing a stern warning, the Chinese Mission stated that China would firmly defend its sovereignty, security, and development interests. Any actions by NATO that undermine China’s legitimate rights and interests would be met with resolute countermeasures. China firmly opposes NATO’s eastward expansion into the Asia-Pacific region and remains committed to safeguarding its national interests in the face of external challenges.

As tensions between China and NATO escalate, the international community is closely monitoring the evolving dynamics and the potential ramifications for global security and stability.
