During the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence Campaign, UN Women and the Embassy of Sweden organised an award ceremony with the theme “2021 in Retrospective Celebrating Actions to End Violence Against Women.” The award ceremony’s goal was to recognise commitments made during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign of 2021 that were followed through on. Several pledges were made to close budget shortages, demonstrate political will for ending violence, and secure necessary assistance for survivors of violence last year after UN Women Pakistan pushed stakeholders to make commitments on the issue.
Every year, during the 16 Days, civil society and women’s rights organisations, the UN system, government partners, development partners, universities, the private sector, and individuals demonstrate their support, commitments, and actions to demand the prevention and elimination of violence against women. The event’s primary guest was Gilgit Baltistan’s Chief Minister, Khalid Khurshid Khan. A panel discussion on the topic of establishing harassment-free workplaces for everyone was also held as part of the event with corporate sector leaders from Ericsson, Atlas Copco, Jazz, and Foodpanda. The global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence campaign, with the slogan “UNITE! ACTIVISM TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN & GIRLS,” began on November 25 and ran until December 10, 2022. At the ceremony, the Embassy of Sweden also displayed the “HER Rights! Money, Power, Autonomy” exhibition, which highlighted important aspects of the process thus far and future steps to create a world that is really equitable for all.
