The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has issued a strong call to the international community following disturbing revelations from an investigative report by the Israeli newspaper *Haaretz*. The investigation includes confessions from Israeli officers and soldiers, exposing their involvement in shooting Palestinian civilians in Gaza’s Netzarim axis and surrounding areas. The report highlights grave violations of human rights, including incidents where soldiers left the bodies of Palestinians to decay and be consumed by stray animals.
The Ministry described these actions as crimes that “shame humanity,” further condemning the reported use of starvation and thirst as tools of war. The Ministry stated that such tactics affirm the deliberate and systematic targeting of civilians by Israeli forces. According to the investigation, snipers are allegedly engaging in a disturbing practice of competing to target Palestinians throughout Gaza on a daily basis.
Calls for Global Action and Accountability
In response to the findings, the Palestinian Ministry has urged countries, international organizations, and United Nations bodies to treat the Haaretz investigation with “the utmost seriousness.” The Ministry emphasized the need for immediate intervention, describing the ongoing situation as an unfolding genocide. It reiterated that the revelations align with previous findings by international bodies, such as the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which have accused Israel of committing crimes against Palestinians and systematically dehumanizing them.
“The Haaretz investigation once again proves the credibility of the ICC and ICJ decisions regarding the Israeli government’s systematic targeting of Palestinian civilians,” the Ministry stated. It further argued that the confessions reflect the brutal realities faced by Gaza’s population and reinforce the need for urgent global action.
Demand for Ceasefire and Protection of Palestinian Rights
The Ministry underscored the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire, stressing that halting military operations in Gaza must become an “absolute priority” for the international community. It appealed for intensified pressure on Israel to stop what it described as a “war of extermination” against Palestinians.
“The war has now entered its 440th day, and the killing of civilians continues without accountability. This cannot persist if international institutions genuinely uphold the principles of international humanitarian law,” the Ministry stated.
Furthermore, the Ministry urged international courts and human rights organizations to ensure that Israel is held accountable for these alleged war crimes. It stressed that Palestinian civilians must be guaranteed full protection under international law and that their fundamental civil and human rights must b respected.
The Haaretz investigation has amplified pressure on governments and international bodies to reevaluate their positions on Israel’s military actions in Gaza. Human rights organizations have called for independent investigations to verify the confessions and provide further evidence to international legal bodies.
Observers argue that the confessions, if verified, could have significant implications for Israel’s leadership and military officials. The revelations may also lead to increased diplomatic efforts to impose sanctions or legal consequences for those implicated in the alleged war crimes.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry concluded its statement by reiterating its call for international solidarity and real action to stop the violence. “The lives of thousands of Palestinians hang in the balance. The international community must act decisively to ensure that justice is served, and these atrocities end immediately,” the statement read.
As the conflict persists, the demand for accountability and justice for Palestinian civilians grows louder, placing greater scrutiny on the role of international institutions in addressing one of the longest-running conflicts in modern history.
