This strategic move aims to maintain law and order during religious processions and gatherings, ensuring the safety of citizens amidst evolving security challenges.

Security Deployment Across Pakistan

The Interior Ministry has issued a notification authorizing the deployment of army and CAF across all provinces, including Gilgit Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Islamabad. This deployment is aimed at aiding civil authorities in maintaining security and ensuring a peaceful environment for Muharram processions and gatherings. Details regarding the exact number and areas of deployment will be finalized in consultation with local administrations based on security requirements on the ground.

Temporary Suspension of Social Media

In response to security concerns, provincial governments like Punjab have recommended a temporary suspension of social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram, during Muharram. This measure aims to prevent the spread of hate speech and misinformation that could incite unrest during the sensitive period.

Ban on Drone Usage

Additionally, the government has imposed a ban on the use of drones during Muharram processions and majalis (gatherings) until Ashura. This decision is part of broader efforts to enhance security and prevent any potential threats or disruptions during religious ceremonies.

Government’s Stance on Internet Services

While social media restrictions are under consideration, the federal government has not yet decided to suspend internet services. The Ministry of Interior emphasized that any decision regarding internet or mobile service disruptions would be made based on ground realities and the prevailing security situation.

Key Questions:

However, the federal government has not yet decided on suspending internet services, emphasizing decisions will be made based on security considerations.
  • What are the implications of banning drones during processions and gatherings?
    • A ban on drones has been imposed nationwide during Muharram processions and majalis (gatherings) until Ashura. This measure aims to prevent potential security threats and ensure the safety of participants by restricting unauthorized aerial activities.

By leveraging military support and implementing stringent security measures, authorities aim to mitigate potential risks and uphold public safety during this religiously significant period.
