United Nations Chief advocates ceasefire and UN intervention in Ghaza
He said, “Unless we act, it will become an indelible mark on our humanity.” He pushed the council to take immediate measures to stop war.
United Nations advocates about a a distressing scenario of an escalating humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip. after October 7. The October 7 attack resulted in a tragic loss of approximately 1,200 lives.
23,000 Palestinians have succumbed to the conflict. 58,000 sustaining injuries, since the October 7 attack.
United Nations Chief advocates the situation as “horrific”. The war has resulted in the displacement of 2.3 million people. These people were compelled to leave because of continuous firing of missiles and bombs.
According to the United Nations Chief, there was no safe place in Ghaza.
Plans of Palestinians Relocation:
US is alarmed by the Israel plans regarding the mass transfer of civilians from Gaza to third countries. This transfer is referred to as voluntary relocation. Griffith fears this as the potential infringement of international law.
Such declarations originating from far-right Israeli cabinet ministers, have elicited concerns from the United States.
During the meeting, U.S. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield and her British counterpart, Barbara Woodward, reiterated these concerns,

Israel Stance
The Israeli Prime Minster informed that they have no plans of moving the Palestinian population from Ghaza.
War Crimes
Ilze Brands Kehris, U.N. Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights, expressed serious concerns regarding the potential commission of war crimes associated with the high civilian casualty toll, extensive destruction of civilian infrastructure, and the displacement of civilians with the suggested intention to move the Palestinian population from Gaza.
She cautioned that the prevailing circumstances pose a real risk of further grave violations, including atrocity crimes, while Israel has consistently denied allegations of committing war crimes.
UN: A Weaponized Agency
In a critical address, Israeli Ambassador Gilad Erdan took issue with the council’s failure to condemn Hamas for what he referred to as a “heinous massacre” on October 7.Erdan accused that the United Nations had “weaponized” itself against Israel.
Furthermore, he pointed out the council’s perceived disregard for Pakistan’s plan to deport up to 1.3 million Afghans and criticized the United Nations for extending preferential treatment to Syria, a nation accused of extensive human rights abuse.
Erdan also stated that the council disproportionately focuses its attention on Israel, asserting, “They have a ‘No Jews, no news’ approach.”
The council convened shortly after Israel rejected accusations, brought by South Africa to the U.N. International Criminal Court, characterizing its offensive as a state-led genocide campaign against Palestinians. Israel vehemently dismissed these allegations as false and “grossly distorted.”
