A terrorist attack near the Russian embassy in Kabul called on the country’s authorities to ensure the security of diplomatic missions. The explosion occurred on Monday morning at the entrance of the Russian embassy’s consular department. According to Russian Foreign Ministry, two employees of the diplomatic mission were killed as a result of the terrorist attack.
The Russian mission is one of only a couple of international missions still operating and performing consular services in Kabul — and the only European one. Most nations closed their embassies when the Taliban captured Kabul in August 2021 as the U.S. and NATO withdrew their troops. No country has recognized the Taliban government.
The Islamic State (IS) group has claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing near the Russian Embassy in Kabul that killed at least six people, including two embassy employees.
