Mao, born in December 1972, is of Han ethnicity and graduated with a Master’s degree, according to the official website of Chinese Foreign Ministry. Mao took the post as the 33rd Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson and Deputy Director-General of the Information Department.
“Mao has been engaged in diplomatic work for 27 years and has worked in Asian affairs for a long time. I believe she will soon establish a good working relationship with Chinese and foreign journalists,” said Wang Wenbin, another Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson when introducing Mao before Monday’s routine news conference. “I hope that you will support Mao’s work as you have supported previous spokespersons.”
Mao said she is honored to become the 33rd spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“I will learn from my predecessors, work with my colleagues to introduce China’s foreign policy and diplomatic philosophy in a timely, accurate and comprehensive manner, and work to enhance mutual understanding between China and the world,” she said before the news conference on Monday.
“I will prepare for each news conference carefully, treat every reporter sincerely, answer every question with heart and soul,” she said. “I am looking forward to maintaining good communication and cooperation with you all, and also hope to receive your support.”
