Balochistan Human Rights Group Held Awareness Campaign for Baloch Genocide Remembrance Day
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) held an awareness campaign in Kalat on January 13, 2025, ahead of Baloch Genocides Remembrance Day, observed annually on January 25. The event aimed to honor those who lost their lives in the struggle for justice and freedom from state oppression in Balochistan.

The BYC, known for its advocacy for Baloch rights, shared details of the campaign on its social media platform, X. The event attracted a large gathering at the Martyrs’ Cemetery, where participants paid respects to the fallen heroes with flowers and prayers. Leaders emphasized the ongoing challenges faced by the Baloch community, urging the need for solidarity and international recognition of the issues.

Details of the Campaign

Participants gathered to remember figures like Babu Nooroz Khan and his companions, whose sacrifices symbolize resistance. The event included a rally involving motorcycles and cars that proceeded to Shahdad Baloch’s grave. There, attendees laid flowers and offered prayers to honor his legacy.

The campaign addressed critical issues, including enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and deaths caused by poor infrastructure. Speakers also highlighted the “cultural genocide” faced by the Baloch people under oppressive policies. Victims’ families shared their testimonies to preserve their stories and document the ongoing struggles of the community.

A Call for Action

BYC leaders, & Mahrang Baloch, stressed the importance of marking January 25 as a day of remembrance and resistance. They invited people to participate in a larger national gathering in Dalbandin. The organization declared the date as “Baloch Genocide Memorial Day,” urging the global community to recognize what it terms as genocide against the Baloch population.

Manguchar Rally Honors Martyrs

On January 17, the BYC held another rally and gathering in Manguchar, further amplifying the campaign. Starting from Zaiqa Hotel, participants marched to Chotank and Darkzai Cemeteries, where they paid tributes to martyrs with prayers and Balochi shawls.

Prominent activist Dr. Mahrang Baloch and other leaders addressed the rally, calling attention to enforced disappearances, road accidents, and the spread of drugs in Balochistan. They urged collective action to confront these issues and condemned state policies they described as genocidal.

Ongoing Campaigns and Future Plans

Awareness sessions and public gatherings continued in other areas like Kharan. The BYC reaffirmed its commitment to raising awareness about the plight of the Baloch people. These campaigns aim to mobilize local and international support for the Baloch cause.

The Baloch Yakjehti Committee’s initiatives highlight the resilience of a community fighting for justice and recognition. With January 25 approaching, the momentum continues to build, reflecting the urgency of addressing human rights violations in Balochistan.
