Xi Urges High-Quality Belt and Road Partnership: China and Bangladesh Unite for Mutual Prosperity

In a resounding call for enhanced collaboration, Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged China and Bangladesh to embark on a journey of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. This appeal comes as both nations stand at critical junctures of development, poised for revitalization. President Xi’s clarion call was made during his meeting with Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on the sidelines of the BRICS summit. With a focus on economic complementarity, the two leaders discussed reinforcing ties in infrastructure, technology, energy, and agriculture sectors, aiming to push their strategic cooperative partnership to greater heights.

 

Strategic Cooperation and Synergy of Development Strategies

President Xi highlighted the time-tested friendship between China and Bangladesh, a bond that was elevated to a strategic cooperative partnership in 2016. Emphasizing the shared development stage, Xi expressed China’s commitment to align its development strategies with Bangladesh’s, thereby fostering a synergy that benefits both nations. By deepening practical cooperation across diverse domains, the two countries aspire to elevate their partnership to a new zenith, redounding to the advantage of their citizens.

 

Safeguarding Sovereignty and Strengthening People-to-People Bonds

Acknowledging Bangladesh’s commitment to preserving its national sovereignty and unity, President Xi assured unwavering support in thwarting external interference. Stressing the importance of strategic communication, he advocated for increased exchanges and close cooperation among different governmental levels. The strengthening of people-to-people ties and cultural exchanges also featured prominently in Xi’s agenda, nurturing a deeper understanding between the nations.

 

Bangladesh Hails Belt and Road: A Door to New Development

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina underscored the transformative impact of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), celebrating its role as a gateway to progress for Bangladesh. She lauded the remarkable milestone of a decade since the inception of the BRI, acknowledging China’s instrumental support in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and in driving economic development. Commending China’s role as a beacon of regional stability, Hasina reiterated her country’s unwavering adherence to the one-China policy and its readiness to foster ties and collaboration through multilateral mechanisms, including BRICS.

 

As the two nations solidify their commitment to a high-quality Belt and Road partnership, the world witnesses the convergence of two developmental trajectories. China’s unwavering support for Bangladesh’s sovereignty and prosperity, coupled with Bangladesh’s wholehearted embrace of the BRI, sets the stage for a symbiotic relationship that promises mutual growth. In an era where collaboration is paramount, Xi and Hasina’s diplomatic tête-à-tête signals not just strengthened bilateral ties, but also a joint dedication to the advancement of regional and global prosperity.
