Munich Security Conference 2023 Pakistan Sidelines

Under the captaincy of Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, a top-notch delegation from Pakistan went to Germany to attend a consecutive three-day Munich Security Conference 2023. This 59th Munich Security Conference (MSC) took place from February 17 to 19, 2023, at the Hotel Bayerischer Hof in Munich, Germany.

The Foreign Minister was received by Pakistan’s Ambassador to Germany Dr. Muhammad Faisal, upon his arrival at Munich. In this conference, Bilawal actively participated in several events and held bilateral meetings with different officials from around the world.

The objective of this year’s conference included bringing together representatives from 96 countries with an aim to conceive, analyze, exchange and then propose solutions on different issues that mainly concern defense and security matters.

Along with the other events, Bilawal held a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Germany, Annalena Baerbock and agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation between both countries especially in energy, trade, skilled manpower, food security, and climate change areas.

Also, for the timely support that Germans provided to the flood-affected people of Pakistan, Bilawal expressed utmost gratitude and immense respect.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also met with Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Both the officials agreed to expand bilateral cooperation, notably in economy. They also exchanged views about celebrations to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Pakistan and Kuwait.

Additionally, on the invitation of Gabrielius Landsbergis, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari paid an official visit to Lithuania on 21 February,2023. This was the first visit of Pakistani Foreign Minister to the Baltic states. During this visit, both the Foreign Ministers talked about developing political dialogue, the international community’s response to Russia’s war against Ukraine, regional security issues in Europe and South Asia, Afghanistan’s humanitarian crisis and discussed about strengthening cooperation between the European Union and Pakistan. During the meeting, Landsbergis and Zardari signed a Memorandum of Understanding between both the countries on establishing a bilateral consultation mechanism and stressed on holding regular consultations on bilateral and international disputes.

In the end of this tour, the foreign minister visited Hungary from February 21-22. He held official talks with his Hungarian counterpart in which both sides stressed on bilateral relations and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest and coordination.
