According to the State Department, the United States has summoned Russia’s ambassador.
To express its displeasure over the Tuesday crash of an American drone over the Black Sea following a collision with a Russian warplane.
Again at top levels, we are speaking directly with the Russians to express our extreme disapproval of this risky, careless intercept. That led to the downing of the unmanned US aircraft, according to spokesman Ned Price.
The American ambassador in Moscow has filed a “strong complaint,” he added.
And the Russian ambassador in Washington has been called to a meeting at the State Department on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Price, this incident clearly broke international law. Tensions over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine were high at the time of the incident.
The US military said a Russian fighter plane spilled fuel on a US drone over the Black Sea. Then crashed with it, forcing the drone to crash.
The incident was attributed by the White House to “reckless” Russian behaviour.
