The UN head made a plea to the group to back his plans to deal with climate change, sustainable development, the global food and energy crises, and digital transformation in a speech on the eve of the G20 Summit there.
According to him, the G20 Summit is taking place at “the most crucial, hazardous juncture in generations.”
While climate change and the growing cost of living are “hitting people everywhere from every direction,” geopolitical tensions are igniting new wars and making it difficult to resolve existing ones.
The G20 is the starting point for overcoming differences and figuring out solutions to these problems and others, he declared.
The Secretary-General emphasized that these nations are responsible for 80% of all global emissions, calling it “the defining problem of our century.”
