Olena Zelenska, the first lady of Ukraine, requested non-lethal military support for her nation at a meeting with South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol on Tuesday, according to the South Korean presidential office.
President Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s wife Zelenska is in South Korea to take part in a press conference.
According to Yoon’s spokesperson, Lee Do-woon, Zelenska informed Yoon that she planned to secure support for Ukraine in the form of non-lethal military hardware such mine detectors during their meeting as a special presidential envoy.
Lee quoted Yoon as saying that South Korea would actively assist the Ukrainian people.
Zelenska mentioned Yoon visiting Ukraine in an interview with South Korea’s Yonhap news agency that was published on Tuesday, stating that such a visit would be “very supportive”.
Additionally, she urged “more radical” backing for Ukraine’s defence against Russian aggression.
Due to its ties with Russia, South Korea, a significant producer of artillery shells, has stated that it will not give Ukraine any lethal weaponry.
Yoon, however, stated in an interview with Reuters last month that his government might not “insist only on humanitarian or financial support” if people in Ukraine are subjected to a significant onslaught or because of a “situation the international community cannot condone”.
