Egypt’s foreign minister has indicated talks with Turkey on the potential of restoring ties. To the ambassadorial level would happen at “the appropriate time” during the first visit to Cairo. By Turkey’s top diplomat since relations ruptured a decade ago.

At a joint press conference on Saturday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry. Announced that Turkey would “as soon as feasible” raise its diplomatic ties with Egypt to ambassadorial status.

I’m happy to see that we are moving towards normalising our relations with Egypt. We will work hard to maintain our relationships in the future, Cavusoglu stated.

According to the positive outcomes it produces, Shoukry stated: “We will come to talks (on restoring ambassadors) at the proper moment.”

After Mohamed Morsi, a supporter of Ankara’s Muslim Brotherhood, was overthrown by Egypt’s then-army head Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in 2013. Relations between the two countries became very strained. The following year, El-Sisi won the presidential election.

The two nations have also been at war recently over maritime borders in the gas-rich Eastern Mediterranean and Libya. Moreover, its there they supported opposite forces in an unresolved battle.

In order to put an end to a decade of hostility between the two nations, Cavusoglu stated on Saturday. That Presidents of Egypt and Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and el-Sisi, would meet “after the Turkish elections,” including the presidential vote scheduled for May 14.

Since the NATO-backed uprising that toppled Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, Libya has experienced little peace. In 2014, it broke up into rival eastern and western factions, enlisting the help of regional powers.

The East Mediterranean Gas Forum was established in 2019. Turkey, however, has been purposely left out. In response, Turkey and the Tripoli-based administration have signed a maritime agreement. Serdar threw in.

Senior foreign ministry officials from Cairo and Ankara began consulting in 2021. As Turkey sought to defuse tensions with Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudia Arabia.

As part of that hesitant reconciliation, Ankara requested that Turkish-based Egyptian opposition TV outlets refrain from harsh criticism of Egypt.

In Egypt’s prisons, Morsi passed away in 2019. The Muslim Brotherhood is still prohibited, and other key members are either imprisoned in Egypt or have fled the country.

Shoukry travelled to Turkey last month as an act of solidarity following the devastating earthquakes. That claimed more than 50,000 lives in both Turkey and Syria.

Egypt’s government, which has been battling a severe lack of foreign cash. And announced that Turkish companies have committed to making $500 million in fresh investments there.
