The second Summit for Democracy will be co-hosted by the United States, Costa Rica, the Netherlands, the Republic of Korea, and the Republic of Zambia on March 29–30, 2023. The second Summit for Democracy will bring together international leaders in a virtual plenary session, followed by meetings with representatives from the public and private sectors in each of the co-hosted nations. The fact that a safer, fairer world based on democratic values is both a common desire and a shared obligation is reinforced by the second Summit for Democracy’s co-hosting by a group of nations with a variety of regional backgrounds.
This event will emphasise how democracies provide for their inhabitants and are best suited to address the world’s most pressing concerns, building on the first Summit for Democracy held in December 2021. Approximately 100 states pledged nearly 750 pledges to strengthen democracy, combat corruption, and combat authoritarianism during the first Summit in December 2021. Although, they will highlight the accomplishments of Summit participants in relation to their Year of Action commitments and plan coordinated action to address new democratic issues.
