The Government buildings in Islamabad were lit up in red to commemorate and show solidarity in order to address inequalities that are holding back in ending AIDS in Pakistan.
The government of Pakistan has maintained a continuous response to the HIV epidemic through national and provincial AIDS control programmes, with support from United Nations (UN) agencies such as WHO, UNAIDS, UNICEF, UNESCO, and UNFPA, as well as bilateral and multilateral funders and a significant number of nonprofit and community service groups. Speaking to a private television station, experts on HIV/AIDS emphasised the urgent need to inspire all Pakistanis to take an active role in preventing this disease.
