Saudi Arabia Urges Caution Following Airstrikes in Yemen

In response to the recent air strikes conducted by the United States and Britain against Houthi-linked sites in Yemen, Saudi Arabia has issued a statement urging restraint and discouraging escalation.
Saudi Arabia, which has recently been involved in diplomatic negotiations with Yemen’s Houthi faction, is closely monitoring the evolving situation with a pronounced sense of apprehension, as articulated by the foreign ministry in an official statement.
The kingdom underscores the paramount importance of upholding the security and stability of the Red Sea region, emphasizing that the unhindered freedom of navigation within this area stands as an imperative of international significance. Furthermore, it is noteworthy that the Royal Air Force’s Typhoon aircraft has been deployed from RAF Akrotiri to participate in the U.S.-led coalition. The mission aims to execute air strikes against military targets in Yemen, specifically targeting the Iran-backed Houthi militia, which has been implicated in activities detrimental to international shipping within the Red Sea. Mohammed Abdulsalam, the chief negotiator representing the Houthis, stated on Thursday that the group’s assaults on commercial ships in the Red Sea should not be construed as a threat to the ongoing peace negotiations with Saudi Arabia.
