Latest situation of Russia Ukraine war

Fighting

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy reports 18 killed and 130 injured in Russia’s missile strikes targeting major cities, warning of potential rising casualties. Russia launches nearly 40 missiles in a combined strike, attempting to bypass Ukraine’s air defense system, says Zelenskyy.

Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, witnesses eight deaths in three waves of attacks. Kyiv residents suffer injuries as Russian missiles hit apartment blocks. Assistant Secretary of Defense Celeste Wallander states Russian attacks aim to exploit Ukrainian military weaknesses while additional US security funding is pending in Congress.

Russia’s Defence Ministry claims:

Russia’s Defense Ministry claims success in targeting weapon, missile, and ammunition-producing companies during its air assault on Ukraine.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov asserts the Russian military avoids hitting social facilities, residential neighborhoods, and civilians.

Politics and diplomacy

Turkey’s parliament votes 287-55, approving Sweden’s NATO membership after over a year of delays, frustrating Western efforts amid the Ukraine war.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg appreciates Turkey’s move and urges Hungary to swiftly complete national ratification.

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban invites Sweden’s Ulf Kristersson to Budapest for negotiations on the accession deal.

Russia Rejects Deportation Claims:

Russia denies forcibly deporting Ukrainian children amid allegations, with Ukraine claiming 20,000 children moved to Russia since the war’s start.

The International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Putin and his children’s commissioner over the transfers. The CIA releases a video in Russian. The video seeks to recruit Russian intelligence personnel as double agents due to Ukraine war disaffection. “20 Days in Mariupol,” an Oscar-nominated documentary, portrays the Russian siege and brutal capture of the Ukrainian port city in 2022.

Weapons

NATO signs a 1.1 billion euro deal to purchase 220,000 rounds of artillery shells for Ukraine, expected in two to three years.

Coordinated raids across Europe result in the Netherlands’ arrest of three individuals suspected of breaking sanctions on exporting military-use equipment to Russia.

US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin opens a meeting supporting Ukraine against Russia, but no new aid is announced. Funding faces Republican opposition.
