Russia has launched a series of air attacks on Ukraine, striking the port city of Odesa and the capital, Kyiv, for the second consecutive night. Ukrainian officials have reported extensive damage in Odesa and confirmed attacks in the Russian-annexed Crimean Peninsula.

The governor of Odesa region, Oleh Kiper, took to social media in the early hours of Wednesday to inform the public that air defense systems were actively engaged in repelling a “massive” Russian air assault. He urged residents to seek safety in shelters until the situation was resolved. The spokesperson for the Odesa military administration, Serhiy Bratchuk, described the attack as exceptionally powerful and stated that further details about casualties and damage would be provided later.

Disturbing footage posted on social media purported to show the aftermath of a Russian air attack on Odesa. The video depicted a multi-story apartment building with blown-out windows and shattered glass strewn across the streets. In addition to Odesa, Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine, also faced a Russian air assault. Witnesses reported hearing explosions and observed smoke rising near the city.

The Kyiv military administration confirmed that Russian air attacks were successfully repelled with the interception of all drones targeting the capital. According to reports, there were no casualties or significant infrastructure damage caused by these attacks.

These acts of aggression by Russia were in retaliation for an explosion on Monday that occurred on a bridge connecting Russia to the Crimean Peninsula. Moscow promptly blamed Ukraine for the blast. In response, Russia withdrew from an agreement that permitted the export of grain from Ukraine’s Black Sea ports, a move that was criticized by the United Nations due to the potential impact on global food security.

Bratchuk, the spokesperson for the Odesa military administration, expressed his belief that Russia’s attacks on the port city were intended to intimidate the international community and hinder the export of vital grain supplies from Ukraine. However, he remained resolute, stating that Odesa would not succumb to fear and would continue its essential work.

In addition to the attacks on Odesa and Kyiv, reports emerged of incidents in the Russian-annexed Crimea. The Krynychky military training grounds were reportedly targeted, with explosions echoing in the region. Sergei Aksyonov, the Moscow-installed governor of Crimea, confirmed that a fire had broken out at the military training grounds in the Kirovske district. The blaze led to the closure of the nearby Tavrida Highway.

Residents of Sevastopol, the capital of Russian-annexed Crimea and home to Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, claimed to have heard explosions in the port city. Online videos purportedly showed missiles being launched from Sevastopol. However, at this time, no further information or independent verification has been provided regarding these incidents.

Military bloggers with pro-Kremlin leanings referred to the attacks on Odesa as “massive” and suggested that Russia employed a combination of missiles and drones in multiple regions to intensify the assault.

The Russian defense ministry acknowledged conducting air strikes on two Ukrainian port cities as a “mass revenge strike” in response to the Crimean Bridge explosion.

As tensions continue to escalate between Russia and Ukraine, the international community closely monitors the situation, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful resolution to prevent further harm and casualties.
