Qatar Signs $200 Billion Deal with Boeing to Purchase 160 Jets During Trump Visit

On May 14, 2025, Qatar finalized a historic agreement to purchase 160 commercial jets from U.S. aerospace giant Boeing, valued at approximately $200 billion. The signing took place in Doha during a ceremony attended by U.S. President Donald Trump and Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.

Largest Boeing Jet Order in History

The deal represents the largest single order of jets in Boeing’s history, a milestone confirmed by Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg during the event. This massive purchase includes a variety of Boeing aircraft models, primarily the 787 Dreamliner and 777X series, to support Qatar Airways’ fleet expansion and modernization plans. According to President Trump, the agreement will help sustain thousands of jobs in the American aerospace and manufacturing sectors.

Strategic Importance of the Deal

This agreement is part of a broader strategy led by President Trump to strengthen U.S. economic ties in the Gulf region through high-value commercial and defense deals. The Qatar deal follows a $142 billion U.S.-Saudi Arabia defense agreement and a $600 billion Saudi investment commitment announced earlier during Trump’s Gulf tour.

Qatar’s decision to invest heavily in Boeing reflects its commitment to upgrading its aviation infrastructure and reinforcing its position as a major global aviation hub. The deal also supports the U.S. government’s goal of boosting American manufacturing exports and securing long-term trade partnerships.

Economic and Employment Impact

The Boeing contract will have significant economic effects for both countries. In the U.S., it is expected to sustain and create thousands of jobs across the aerospace supply chain, including manufacturing, engineering, and maintenance. The production and delivery of these aircraft will contribute to continued growth in the U.S. aerospace industry, a key sector of the American economy.

For Qatar, acquiring new Boeing aircraft is aligned with its national development plans and Qatar National Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the economy and enhance global connectivity.

Broader U.S.-Qatar Partnership

The jet deal is one part of a wider collaboration between the U.S. and Qatar, encompassing defense, energy, and infrastructure. Qatar remains a strategic U.S. partner in the Middle East, hosting the Al Udeid Air Base, a critical military facility supporting U.S. operations in the region.

This latest investment underscores Qatar’s commitment to maintaining strong bilateral ties and leveraging American technology and innovation to drive economic growth.

Summary

  • Qatar signed a $200 billion deal to purchase 160 Boeing jets during President Trump’s May 2025 visit.

  • The order is the largest jet deal in Boeing’s history.

  • The agreement supports thousands of U.S. jobs and strengthens U.S.-Qatar economic relations.

  • It complements other major deals secured by President Trump in the Gulf, including a $142 billion U.S.-Saudi defense agreement.

  • The deal aligns with Qatar’s national economic goals and enhances its aviation capabilities.
