KISHIDA Fumio at UN Women’s HeForShe Summit
Kishida Fumio at UN Women’s Heforshe summit stressed the need for a “new form of capitalism” to revitalise the Japanese economy and pave the way for the future. We have implemented a strategy under my initiative that is centred on “women’s economic independence” and is based on “growth and distribution.” We think that this strategy is essential for resolving the structural issues that women in Japan face, such as the salary gap between men and women, and for empowering all women to forge their own life pathways. Additionally, he added “To change Japan and the world, we need to raise awareness of gender equality throughout our entire society and that means including among us men. Japan has been supporting developing countries in line with the HeForShe concept to create a society where men, women, and all people can enjoy a life of opportunity. We will further strengthen our partnership with UN Women and will contribute to creating a society in which “No One is Left Behind.”
