The General Conference of UNESCO adopted Resolution 41 C/57 on November 23, 2021, designating January 25 as the International Day of Women in Multilateralism. The goal of this day is to acknowledge the crucial part that women play in the multilateral system’s efforts to advance human rights, peace, and sustainable development.
The International Day of Women in Multilateralism promotes gender-responsive policies and agreements that will make multilateralism more effective for women and girls. It also calls for greater representation of women in high-level decision-making roles that design and carry out multilateral agendas. Additionally, it offers a platform for intergenerational discussion between current multilateral women leaders and the next generation of women who will assume leadership roles in world governance.
