More than 100 people died in a strong earthquake that destroyed homes and other structures in a densely populated part of Indonesia’s West Java province. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Cianjur district of West Java around 1:21 p.m. local time on Monday at a depth of 10 kilometres (6.2 miles). This caused buildings to fall as school lessons were in session.
The number of people killed in the earthquake that jolted Java, Indonesia, increased to 252 on Tuesday as fresh bodies were discovered under collapsed structures.
On its Instagram page, the Cianjur regional disaster mitigation organisation stated The origin of the 5.6 magnitude earthquake that occurred on Monday afternoon was close to the city of Cianjur, which is located south of Jakarta. The earthquake caused buildings near the rural region to collapse and drove panicked locals fleeing into the streets, some of whom were covered in blood and rubble. that there are now more casualties than the 162 recorded the previous night. Although, there are still another 31 people missing, and numerous people were injured.
