Gaza’s Al-Quds Hospital Shuts Down Amid Israeli Assault, Escalating Humanitarian Crisis
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Gaza’s second-largest hospital, Al-Quds Hospital, has been forced to cease operations due to an acute fuel shortage, as relentless Israeli attacks persist. The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) issued a grave statement on Sunday, highlighting the hospital’s vulnerability under the ongoing bombardment, endangering the lives of medical staff, patients, and displaced civilians. The fuel depletion has led to power outages, pushing medical professionals to resort to unconventional methods amid dire humanitarian conditions. This alarming development intensifies fears for the well-being of Palestinians seeking crucial treatment and shelter within the besieged enclave.

Humanitarian Crisis Deepens as Al-Quds Hospital Faces Fuel Shortage

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) disclosed that the cessation of services at Al-Quds Hospital is a direct consequence of the depletion of available fuel, exacerbating the dire conditions in Gaza. With power outages compounding the challenges, medical staff is tirelessly attempting to provide care despite a shortage of medical supplies, food, and water. The situation not only jeopardizes the well-being of patients but also places the lives of medical professionals at severe risk. The desperate plea for international intervention echoes as Gaza’s healthcare system teeters on the brink of collapse.

Isolation and Desperation: Al-Quds Hospital Cut Off from the World

Tommaso Della Longa, spokesperson for the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, emphasized the isolation of Al-Quds Hospital over the past six to seven days, stating, “No way in, no way out.” The hospital’s isolation mirrors the broader challenges faced by healthcare facilities in Gaza, as major hospitals, including Al-Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza, close their doors to new patients. Israeli bombardment, coupled with fuel and medicine shortages, has created a grim reality where those already under treatment face heightened risks, exacerbating the desperation of both patients and medical staff.

Israeli Attacks Escalate Humanitarian Crisis, Overwhelming Healthcare Facilities

Hospitals in northern Gaza find themselves blockaded by Israeli forces, struggling to meet the escalating healthcare needs of the population. Medical staff report an increasing number of casualties daily, while the capacity to provide adequate care dwindles. Ahmed al-Kahlout, a concerned parent fleeing south in adherence to Israeli advice, reveals the alarming reality of having no safe haven for his injured son. Reports from Al-Shifa Hospital describe the dire situation, with a plastic surgeon highlighting the makeshift measures taken to accommodate premature babies due to bombing damage. The Gaza Health Ministry’s spokesman, Ashraf al-Qudra, condemns Israeli fire, stating it “terrorizes medical officials and civilians alike.”

As Al-Quds Hospital grapples with its forced closure amid Israeli attacks, the international community faces mounting pressure to intervene and address the complete breakdown of Gaza’s healthcare system. The escalating humanitarian crisis, marked by depleted resources and overwhelmed medical facilities, underscores the urgent need for concerted efforts to ensure the well-being of the civilian population caught in the crossfire. The toll on human lives continues to rise, with the specter of tragedy looming over Gaza, emphasizing the imperative for immediate action to alleviate the suffering of those at the heart of this crisis.
