President Biden will host his first state dinner at the White House for French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday, resuming some of the more ceremonial diplomatic events that had been put on hold because of the COVID-19 outbreak. According to the White House, the visit by Macron and his wife Brigitte will highlight the close bond with the United States’ first and oldest ally. France is not only the United States’ oldest ally but also an “essential global partner” on a variety of important problems, according to National Security Council spokesman John Kirby. However, The French President began their three-day trip on Tuesday evening and visited NASA as well. The visit is a part of an effort to mend the two nations’ deteriorating relations following a submarine agreement. While the U.S. must consider the effects of its own political actions on friends, France is concerned about climate and energy issues.
