Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto has arrived in Moscow for his first visit in an effort to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.

FM Bilawal was welcomed by senior Russian Foreign Ministry officials, Pakistan’s ambassador to Russia Shafqat Ali Khan, and embassy staff.

According to a statement from the Foreign Office, Mr Bhutto will go to the Russian Federation at Sergey Lavrov’s request. Today’s meeting between the two ministers will cover the full range of bilateral ties as well as talk about global and regional topics of shared concern. Days after a top Russian group visited the South Asian country for an oil and gas agreement, the PPP leader made a trip to Moscow.

During the Russian delegation’s visit to Islamabad, the two sides signed a number of memorandums of understanding in various sectors and discussed the supply of inexpensive crude oil to the cash-strapped Pakistan, which has been struggling to satisfy its energy demands in recent years.

Pakistan’s senior leaders visited friendly countries as the country’s central bank’s FX reserves fell to a precarious $3.6 billion. Additionally, Islamabad anticipates that Russia would permit payment of energy purchases in the currencies of allies. Pakistan will begin importing Russian oil in March. Due to Pakistan’s partnership with other nations, primarily the US, the relationship between the two sides has had numerous ups and downs.
