EU, ILO and WWF-Pakistan commit to strengthening environmental compliance in textile and leather sectors. WWF-Pakistan has been working for the conservation of natural resources and pollution reduction in Pakistan’s textile and leather sectors.
The seminar was attended by stakeholders from the public and private sector organizations who actively took part in the discussion. Each year the EU provides €100 million to Pakistan in grants for development and strengthening cooperation. This time EU supports sustainable and green inclusive growth in Pakistan & funded €12 Million to the ‘International Labour and Environmental Standards Application SMEs’ projects.
From 1 September 2016 – 30 September 2022 the international labour and environmental standards application in Pakistan’s SMEs (ILES) will “strengthen national labour and environmental standards compliance with international standards to increase competitiveness, sustainable and inclusive growth in Pakistan. The project will also implement pilot interventions in selected enterprises in textile and leather sectors to develop business cases for compliance with labour and environmental standards.”
