Janez Lenari, the Commissioner for Crisis Management, visited Pakistan this week in response to the unprecedented flooding emergency that has resulted in a rapid deterioration of the humanitarian situation. During his visit, the Commissioner announced a new €30 million EU humanitarian aid package for Pakistan.
This new funding will go toward meeting the most pressing needs, such as basic shelters, safe drinking water and sanitation, food and nutrition, and medical services.
Upon arrival in Pakistan, Commissioner Lenarcic visited Khipro in Sindh province to assess the scope of the disaster, speak with affected communities, and see the European assistance that is already in place.
