China Supports Ceasefire in Gaza as Sisi and King Abdullah II Condemn Collective Punishment
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In the midst of escalating Israeli aggression in Gaza, Chinese President Xi Jinping extended his support for a ceasefire and humanitarian corridors to Egypt’s Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouli. This crucial move from Beijing aims to bring “more stability” to the Middle East, as the situation casts a long shadow over the region. China has consistently supported a two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, displaying its historical sympathy for the Palestinian cause. President Xi and Prime Minister Madbouli held talks in Beijing on Thursday, during which Xi reaffirmed China’s commitment to the peaceful coexistence of Palestine and Israel through a two-state solution. This report highlights the significant efforts from international leaders and their condemnation of “collective punishment” in Gaza.

Beijing Backs Ceasefire Efforts

As the Gaza crisis continues to escalate, President Xi expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with Egypt to safeguard international fairness and justice. Xi highlighted the importance of Egypt’s role in de-escalating the situation and expressed China’s support for Egypt’s initiatives in opening humanitarian corridors. According to Xi, it is imperative to prevent the situation from spiraling out of control, potentially causing a severe humanitarian crisis. He emphasized that the top priority is to cease fire and halt the ongoing conflict. Furthermore, in response to the recent United States’ veto of a UN Security Council resolution calling for a “humanitarian pause,” Beijing reiterated its calls for an immediate cessation of violence. The Chinese government expressed deep disappointment in the US’s obstruction of the resolution, urging the Security Council to fulfill its role in securing a ceasefire and ending the conflict. China’s commitment to stability in the Middle East stands as a beacon of hope amid the ongoing crisis.

Sisi and King Abdullah II Denounce Collective Punishment

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II also joined the international chorus against the plight of Palestinians in Gaza. In a meeting held in Cairo, the leaders strongly condemned what they termed as “collective punishment” of Palestinians. Their discussion revolved around finding ways to halt the Israeli aggression on Gaza, further demonstrating their shared commitment to ending the suffering of Palestinian civilians. In their separate statements, both leaders firmly expressed their unified position against policies that involve the siege, starvation, or displacement of Palestinians. Moreover, Sisi and King Abdullah II issued a stark warning about the potential for a regional spillover if the war does not come to an end. They stressed that the continuation of hostilities could push the entire region closer to catastrophe, underscoring the urgency of the situation. This strong stand against collective punishment and the call for a ceasefire underscores the shared commitment of these regional leaders to prevent further escalation of the crisis.

International Leaders Collaborate Amidst Gaza Crisis

The collaborative efforts of international leaders to address the ongoing crisis in Gaza were underscored by a planned meeting between Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, US President Joe Biden, and Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas. However, Jordan was compelled to cancel the meeting following a deadly Israeli strike on a Gaza hospital, further highlighting the gravity of the situation. As the situation in Gaza remains dire, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited Cairo on the same day as the meeting between Sisi and King Abdullah II. Guterres’ visit demonstrates the global community’s concern for the crisis and its commitment to finding a peaceful resolution. Additionally, Sisi discussed “the situation in Gaza” with US Central Command chief Michael Kurilla, reflecting the multi-faceted approach taken by leaders to address the crisis. The international community continues to engage and collaborate, striving to put an end to the suffering in Gaza.

In the midst of this challenging period, international leaders are united in their support for a ceasefire and their condemnation of collective punishment, reinforcing the urgent need for a peaceful resolution to the Gaza crisis. China’s commitment to stability, along with the shared determination of leaders from Egypt and Jordan, underscores the global community’s dedication to putting an end to the suffering of the Palestinian people and preventing further escalation in the region.
