In a significant move to enhance the cooperation between the BRICS nations, China and South Africa have pledged to deepen their ties. During a phone talk on Tuesday July 25, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi exchanged good wishes for the upcoming BRICS Summit. They expressed their commitment to boost development through strengthened collaboration. The meeting held in Johannesburg marked the 13th Meeting of BRICS National Security Advisers and High Representatives on National Security. It provided a platform for preparations ahead of the BRICS heads of state summit. Both leaders highlighted the importance of the BRICS mechanism in fostering international cooperation among emerging markets and developing countries.

China and South Africa Pledge to Deepen BRICS Cooperation

During the phone talk between President Ramaphosa and Wang Yi, both leaders pledged to strengthen cooperation within the BRICS framework. The forthcoming BRICS Summit holds immense importance, and China expressed its hopes for a successful summit under Ramaphosa’s leadership. They believe the summit will invigorate and provide new opportunities for BRICS cooperation. Both nations share the goal of promoting high-level exchanges between China and South Africa while also enhancing China-Africa cooperation.

China’s Solid Support for South Africa’s Development

Highlighting the strong friendship between China and South Africa, Wang Yi affirmed China’s unwavering support for South Africa’s development and revitalization efforts. Amid changing international dynamics, China expressed its commitment to standing firmly with South Africa, encouraging its progress, and acknowledging its potential role in the region and the world. This support extends to South Africa’s hosting of the BRICS Summit, and China is keen to see it as a catalyst for further advancement in South Africa-China relations and Africa-China relations.

Strengthening Multilateralism and Trade Cooperation

Apart from the BRICS-related discussions, the two sides also addressed broader issues of multilateralism and trade cooperation. Wang Yi assured South Africa of China’s dedication to working together to reinforce the BRICS mechanism as a vital platform for emerging markets and developing nations. He emphasized promoting democracy in international relations, safeguarding basic norms, and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, all in the pursuit of regional and global peace and stability.

China and South Africa’s commitment to deepen BRICS cooperation and strengthen their bilateral ties signifies a significant step towards fostering economic growth and stability in the region and the world. As the BRICS mechanism gains momentum, the collaboration between these two nations is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of emerging markets and developing countries. With both sides determined to promote multilateralism and regional peace, the world watches closely as China and South Africa take further strides towards fostering prosperity and friendship between them and across the African continent.
