China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI),referred to as the New Silk Road, is one of the greatest infrastructural projects to ever be undertaken. The vast array of investment and development initiatives that President Xi Jinping unveiled in 2013 were first intended to construct the physical infrastructure that would link East Asia and Europe. It has land borders with 15 countries, including some unstable ones like Afghanistan and some looking to form new alliances with countries that oppose the US, like Russia.
