China’s Foreign Ministry retaliated against Canada’s baseless charges and criticisms of China in its recently unveiled “Indo-Pacific Strategy,” pleading with Ottawa to act on its promise to forge bilateral ties.
Zhao Lijian, a spokeswoman for the foreign ministry, claimed during a news briefing in Beijing that the so-called strategy is ideologically biased and exaggerates the supposed “China danger” in particular about its substance against China.
“The international community is well aware of who is preserving world peace and fostering shared growth and who is fanning the flames of the Cold War mentality and stoking bloc tensions,” Zhao remarked.
He continued, “China has always been a builder of world peace, a contributor to global prosperity, and a defender of international order. No matter what stage it evolves into, China never wants hegemony or expansion.”
Zhao stated matters concerning Taiwan, Xinjiang, and Hong Kong are solely Chinese internal affairs and brook no outside intervention or careless statements. He noted that noninterference is fundamental in state-to-state dealings. He also stated that “China is firm in defending its national security, sovereignty, and development interests.
According to the spokesperson, the Canadian side has frequently stated that it values its relationships with China and is prepared to advance and deepen those relationships with a forward-thinking mentality. Then, Zhao continued, “the Canadian side should be sincere and good willed, preserve the spirit of finding common ground while discarding differences, and pursue a logical and practical approach toward China.”
