Arab foreign ministers have firmly rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s suggestion to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to Egypt and Jordan. In a joint statement, top officials from Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, the Palestinian Authority, and the Arab League condemned any attempts to force Palestinians from their homeland.
The ministers warned that such a move would destabilize the region, escalate the conflict, and damage efforts for a lasting peace. They emphasized that Palestinians have a right to remain on their land and should not be forcibly displaced.
Trump’s Proposal Sparks Outrage
Trump recently suggested that Egypt and Jordan should accept Palestinians displaced by the war in Gaza. He described the territory as a “demolition site” after months of Israeli bombardment. He insisted that the relocation could be temporary or long-term.
The proposal triggered strong reactions from Arab nations and Palestinian leaders. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi rejected the idea, stating that Egypt would not allow the displacement of Gazans. He warned that Egyptians would take to the streets in protest if any such plan was pursued.
Jordan also refused Trump’s proposal. The country already hosts millions of Palestinian refugees and has consistently opposed any plans to alter Gaza’s demographics. The Jordanian government reaffirmed its commitment to a two-state solution as the only path to peace.
Arab Leaders Warn of Regional Consequences
The Arab League’s statement stressed that transferring Palestinians out of Gaza would worsen tensions and prolong instability. Officials cautioned that such actions would make peace efforts even more difficult and could lead to broader unrest in the Middle East.
Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the UAE echoed these concerns. They insisted that any resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict must respect Palestinian sovereignty. The joint statement rejected forced displacement as a violation of Palestinian rights.
Plans for Gaza’s Reconstruction
Despite rejecting Trump’s proposal, Arab leaders agreed on the need to rebuild Gaza. Egypt has announced plans to host an international conference with the United Nations to address Gaza’s reconstruction. It is expected to bring together key global stakeholders, but no date has been set for the event.
The war in Gaza has left much of the territory in ruins, with most of its 2.3 million residents displaced. Arab nations have called for urgent humanitarian aid and a permanent ceasefire to prevent further suffering.
Calls for a Two-State Solution
Arab officials reiterated their support for a two-state solution, emphasizing that Palestinians must have the right to their own independent state. They urged the international community to work toward a fair and lasting peace.
Trump’s relocation proposal has been widely condemned as an attempt at ethnic cleansing. Arab nations made it clear that any future peace plan must respect Palestinian land rights and avoid forced population transfers.
The rejection of Trump’s plan highlights the deep divisions over how to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. While the U.S. pushes for alternative solutions, Arab nations remain committed to Palestinian self-determination and regional stability.
