The second Russia-Africa Summit in St Petersburg witnessed a significant and influential dialogue on the sidelines between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. During this meeting, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening their bilateral relationship and strengthening cooperation between Russia and Egypt, emphasizing the enduring bond between the two nations as they celebrate 80 years of diplomatic ties.

A Warm Welcome and Gratitude

Putin warmly welcomed President el-Sisi at the summit, expressing his appreciation for the Egyptian leader’s presence and contributions towards enhancing the ties between Russia and Egypt. Acknowledging the importance of their meeting and the significance of the Russia-Africa Summit in strengthening regional partnerships, the two leaders engaged in discussions with enthusiasm and optimism.

Advancing Joint Projects and Expanding Trade

Highlighting the progress of ambitious joint projects, Putin made special mention of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant, an endeavor that symbolizes the cooperation between the two nations in the energy sector. Emphasizing the project’s significance, both leaders expressed confidence in its success and its potential to bring about mutual benefits.

Putin also shared positive news about the substantial growth of bilateral trade, noting that it saw an impressive increase of 28.8% in the past year. Building on this momentum, trade between Russia and Egypt has risen an additional 7% during the first five months of the current year. Of particular significance, Egypt’s contribution to Russia’s total trade with Africa amounts to a third of the entire trade volume, solidifying their economic partnership.

Strengthening Cultural Ties

Commemorating 2023 as the “Year of Cultural Cooperation,” the meeting highlighted the significance of cultural collaboration between Russia and Egypt. With both nations eager to foster mutual understanding and strengthen the bonds between their people, this initiative represents their shared commitment to promoting cultural exchanges and mutual respect.

President el-Sisi expressed his gratitude for the hospitality extended to him and reiterated his commitment to their shared initiatives and projects. He reaffirmed the importance of the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant and the establishment of the Russian Industrial Zone in Egypt, both of which hold great promise for the future of their cooperation.

The dialogue between the two leaders was marked by warmth and appreciation, reflecting the unique nature of the bilateral relationship between Russia and Egypt. Both leaders expressed their anticipation for productive outcomes from the Russia-Africa Summit, showcasing their determination to advance mutual interests and promote regional cooperation.

In conclusion, the influential dialogue between President Vladimir Putin and President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi at the second Russia-Africa Summit exemplified their unwavering commitment to strengthening the bilateral relationship between Russia and Egypt.

As both nations commemorate 80 years of diplomatic ties, the joint projects, expanding trade, and cultural collaborations showcase their determination to advance mutual interests and foster stronger bonds between their people.

This meeting sets the stage for more fruitful outcomes during the Russia-Africa Summit, reflecting a shared vision for the future of Russia-Egypt relations.
