China’s embrace of Saudi Arabia leaves Iran out in the cold

Iran is becoming deeply concerned that China’s fast-growing relations with Saudi Arabia go against Beijing’s long-standing neutrality pledge. Tehran’s decision-makers are wondering if China’s views toward the region have changed in light of joint statements made during President Xi Jinping’s recent trip to Saudi Arabia. China sees a great chance to take root in the Middle East and disrupt American efforts to concentrate its energies on the Indo-Pacific area.
