The US ambassador to Pakistan Donald Blome paid a visit to Islamabad’s Margalla Hills National Park (MHNP) and promised to collaborate with Pakistan to enhance the country’s environmental and climatic aspects. The ambassador visited the Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre located in the former Murghzar Zoo and was briefed on the facility’s abundance of wildlife along with Arsalan Faheem, DAI’s national director in Pakistan.
He was presented with taxidermy specimens of different illegally hunted animals like the Asiatic leopard, Ibex, Markhor trophies, and black buck dear and hides or pelts of Barking Deer, Red Fox, Jackal, Mongoose, Bengal Tiger, and Snow Leopard. Ambassador Blome said that the Pakistan-US green alliance was supporting various climate resilience initiatives focusing on biodiversity, agriculture, and other regions related to the environment and nature. . The ambassador was briefed on the efforts of the board in nature conservation and protection of precious biodiversity species.
During the visit, the envoy observed black bears and common kites, eagles, and buzzards that were under the rehabilitation of the IWMB. He also hiked into the zone where he was briefed about the living natural habitat of the endangered wildcat.
