The following statement was made in honour of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau:
“On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, we come together to take action to stop gender-based violence and recognize the tireless work advocacy groups and community organizations do to support survivors and their families”
He also stated that Every day, women, girls, and gender-diverse people face violence in Canada as a result of their gender, gender expression, or perceived gender. Gender-based violence is more likely to affect some groups than others, including Indigenous women and girls, racialized women, women who live in rural and remote regions, and members of 2SLGBTQI+ communities. To break the cycle and make sure that everyone may feel safe both now and in the future, we all have a part to play.
