Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is in charge of Pakistan’s delegation at COP27. Similar to the 1992 Earth Summit, Pakistan is heading the largest and most powerful G-77 bloc in the international climate negotiations.
Pakistan has a very compelling argument to make at COP27, as we are still dealing with the effects of the disastrous floods that struck the nation this summer. The presence of UN Secretary General António Guterres added to the magnitude of the destruction. Along with other prominent international signatories and leaders, he paid a visit.
PM Shehbaz said, “Millions of people are going into this winter without shelter or livelihood.” He reiterated, “Women and children are still looking to us to protect their basic needs.”
