The United States and Saudi Arabia have finalized the largest defence sales agreement in history, valued at nearly $142 billion. The White House describes this deal as a crucial step in deepening the defence and security partnership between the two countries. This agreement will supply Saudi Arabia with advanced military equipment and services from more than a dozen leading U.S. defence firms.

Key Components of the Agreement

The comprehensive defence package covers five main areas:

  • Air Force Advancement and Space Capabilities: Modernization of Saudi Arabia’s air power and space-related military assets.

  • Air and Missile Defence: Enhanced systems to protect against aerial threats.

  • Maritime and Coastal Security: Strengthening Saudi Arabia’s naval and coastal defense.

  • Border Security and Land Forces Modernisation: Upgrades to ground forces and border protection measures.

  • Information and Communication Systems: Improved military communications and technology infrastructure.

Training and Support

Beyond equipment, the agreement includes extensive training programs and support to build the capacity of Saudi armed forces. This involves enhancements to Saudi military academies and medical services, aimed at improving operational skills and healthcare infrastructure within the military.

Strategic and Economic Impact

The deal reflects a significant U.S. investment in Saudi Arabia’s defence capabilities and regional security. It reinforces interoperability between U.S. and Saudi forces through shared systems and training, promoting long-term strategic stability.

This agreement is part of broader economic cooperation between the two nations, with total commercial deals exceeding $600 billion over recent months. This marks the largest commercial package in history between the United States and Saudi Arabia, indicating strengthened bilateral relations.

Industry Involvement

While specific equipment details were not fully disclosed by the White House, major U.S. defence companies such as Lockheed Martin, RTX, Boeing, and Northrop Grumman are involved. Reports indicate the inclusion of C-130 transport aircraft, missiles, and radar systems in the package.

The $142 billion defence deal between the United States and Saudi Arabia is a landmark agreement that significantly enhances Saudi Arabia’s military capabilities. It strengthens the strategic partnership between the two countries while boosting U.S. defence industry exports. The deal is expected to support regional security and foster continued cooperation between the U.S. and Saudi Arabia in defence and economic sectors.
