The sad truth that Afghan women and girls still have to battle for their human right to an education is being brought to light by UNESCO. 1.2 million Afghan girls and young women who are of school age do not have access to secondary education or higher education, making up 80% of the country’s school-age population.
On the occasion of International Day of Education, UNESCO is celebrating the UN in New York. The right of Afghan women and girls to education has been prioritised by UNESCO as a global issue. The International Day of Education in 2023 will honour Afghan girls and women. Additionally, UNESCO has collaborated with local NGOs to create a community-based literacy drive.
