UN woman Asia continues to support woman and girls to elevate their voices.
Mallika Iyer, a 26 year old woman who serves as Director of Asia and the Pacific and Europe Programs and Humanitarian Action to the Global Network of Women Peace builders (GNWP) has been working to promote gender equality in Asia region.
“Girls and young women grow up hearing that we should be seen and not heard. We’re judged and dismissed by our age and gender as opposed to our ideas,” said Mallika Iyer when speaking about major challenges to young women in the ASEAN
Pakistan is one of the worst countries in the world in terms of gender equality and international organizations are trying to help to enable a quicker improvement where woman and girls have more power and voice. Although there is still a long path for Pakistan to reach equality, the efforts that international organizations are doing are making a difference.
