Six heritage sites in Pakistan have been digitally preserved by USAID in collaboration with LUMS and the Aga Khan Foundation. The historical structures are decaying and badly maintained. The great heritage sites of Pakistan are now constantly in danger from weather-related deterioration, negligence, vandalism, and terrorism. They used an innovative approach to preservation by using cutting-edge 3D Laser Scanners to generate virtual tours and 3D models of these buildings, resulting in a digital archive of Pakistan’s historic architectural sites.
LUMS provides an insight into Pakistan’s rich cultural landscape and unique heritage. Masjid Khudabad, Masjid Wazir Khan, the Shiva Temple, Derawar Fort, Buddhist Stupas and Monasteries at Takht-i-Bahi and Julian, as well as Hinduism and Buddhism, which originated in the Indian subcontinent circa 700 B.C., are included on the list. In addition to these locations, their team at LUMS and proactive partners have identified numerous locations in the provinces of Sindh, Punjab, and KPK where work is now being done. Through the historical portal heritage360.pk that they created throughout the project, visitors may now take virtual tours of these famous locations. On the CyArk website, you can also explore the locations of Masjid Wazir Khan, Julian, and Jamia Masjid Khudabad.
