Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has strongly condemned a new US proposal for Gaza, warning that Washington is making a serious miscalculation. He stated that the plan, backed by President Donald Trump, is unacceptable and disregards the historical and cultural realities of the region.
Speaking to journalists on his return from Islamabad, Erdogan criticized the US for taking Israel’s stance at face value. He warned that any forced displacement of Palestinians would be a humanitarian disaster and labeled the plan an atrocity.
“It is absolutely unacceptable to approve this forced displacement,” Erdogan said. He urged Trump to fulfill his earlier commitments to peace instead of escalating conflicts in the Middle East.
Hamas-Israel Ceasefire and Prisoner Exchange
Erdogan emphasized that Hamas has upheld its promises in the ongoing ceasefire negotiations, while Israel has failed to build trust. He pointed to the prisoner exchange as proof of Hamas’ resilience despite Gaza enduring 15 months of blockade and bombardment.
“The US continues to shield the Israeli government. But how long will the American people tolerate financing this war?” Erdogan questioned. He called for global attention on post-exchange developments and renewed efforts toward a lasting peace.
Türkiye’s Position on Syria
Turning to Syria, Erdogan reiterated Türkiye’s firm stance against terrorist groups in the country. He stated that Damascus must regain full control over its territory for long-term stability.
“We have a clear understanding with Syria on tackling terrorist organizations,” Erdogan said. “No terrorist group has a place in Syria. If necessary, we will take action to ensure this.”
Türkiye has conducted several military operations in northern Syria to prevent threats from terrorist groups. Erdogan warned that Türkiye would not allow any actor to stall or manipulate efforts to resolve security concerns.
Russia-Ukraine Conflict: Hope for Diplomatic Progress
Erdogan commented on the upcoming meeting between US President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the war in Ukraine. He expressed optimism that the talks could lead to positive outcomes.
“If this meeting results in a breakthrough, the world will move forward in a very different direction,” he said.
Economic Expansion with China
Erdogan also announced new investments from China in Türkiye’s automotive industry. A Chinese company plans to establish a factory in Manisa, while another brand is considering a facility in Samsun.
“These investments will boost our economy and strengthen our industrial base,” Erdogan said.
Strengthening Ties with Asia
Erdogan emphasized Türkiye’s commitment to deepening relations with Asian countries. He stated that as Western influence declines, Asia’s strategic importance continues to rise.
“We are working to enhance economic, social, and political ties with Muslim nations in Asia,” he said. “Stronger collaborations will create more opportunities for growth and prosperity.”
Erdogan underlined that Türkiye’s business leaders are playing a key role in building economic partnerships. He reaffirmed his commitment to making Türkiye a central player in global trade.
“We have the determination to transform our country into a global power,” he said.
Erdogan’s remarks highlight Türkiye’s growing influence in regional affairs and its firm stance on international conflicts. His warnings on Gaza, Syria, and Ukraine signal Türkiye’s active role in shaping global politics while pursuing economic and diplomatic opportunities.
