A spokesperson for the foreign ministry stated in a press release on Saturday that China regrets and vehemently opposes the U.S. adopting and signing into law the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023, which has unfavourable provisions for China.
According to the spokesperson, China has made serious demarches to the United States
The spokesman added that this is a major political provocation against China as it hypes up the “China threat” narrative, shamelessly meddles in China’s domestic affairs, and criticises and discredits the Communist Party of China (CPC).
The spokesperson stated that history and the populace had chosen the CPC’s leadership. The Chinese people are aware of the United States’ malign purpose to stifle and contain China’s development and obstruct the revitalization of the Chinese nation. “Attempts to cleave the Chinese people away from the CPC will fail.”
The one-China concept and the terms of the three China-U.S. Joint Communiques are gravely violated by the numerous unfavourable measures towards Taiwan that are included in this Act. The spokesperson claims that this seriously undermines peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait and sends the “Taiwan independence” separatist groups a confusing impression.
“Taiwan is China’s Taiwan. China would not tolerate any outside involvement in its domestic affairs “The spokesperson emphasised that the United States must avoid hollowing out the one-China concept, trying to use Taiwan as a means of containing China, and moving even farther down a dangerous and incorrect path.
The spokesperson urged the US to “earnestly implement the important common understandings reached between the two presidents in Bali, abandon the Cold-War and zero-sum mentality and ideological bias, adopt an objective and rational view of China’s development and China-US relations, and not to implement the negative China-related sections in the Act,” adding that China will take strong and resolute steps to firmly safeguard its sovereignty.
