According to a statement released by Global Affairs Canada on Monday, Canada has announced an additional $25 million in funding to assist Pakistan in recovering from last year’s historic flooding.
The funds will be used to support projects that are in line with Pakistan’s Resilient Recovery, Rehabilitation, and Reconstruction Framework. Floods in 2022 killed over 1,700 people and affected 33 million people across the country. Millions of people are still living near stagnant flood waters today. Canada has contributed a total of $58 million to Pakistan in response to the floods and for long-term recovery. The total damage is estimated to be $14.9 billion, with a $US.
Pakistan requires $16.3 billion to recover from the floods. Nearly 27,000 schools and nearly 1,500 public health facilities were destroyed, preventing 2 million additional children from accessing education and healthcare services.
