Algerian President Embarks on First State Visit to China, Deepening Bilateral Ties
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In a significant diplomatic move, the President of Algeria, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, is scheduled to embark on a state visit to China from July 17 to 21. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying announced this highly anticipated visit on Thursday, marking President Tebboune’s first trip to China since assuming office. During the visit, the leaders of the two nations will engage in discussions concerning regional and international matters of mutual interest. This visit holds immense significance for both countries, given their longstanding historical ties and the fruitful outcomes achieved through their strategic partnership.

Strengthening Historical Bonds

China’s recognition of Algeria’s provisional government in 1958 marked a significant milestone in their bilateral relations. As the first non-Arab country to extend its recognition, China played a crucial role in supporting Algeria during its formative years. Additionally, Algeria’s unwavering support was instrumental in the People’s Republic of China’s successful restoration of its lawful rights at the United Nations. These historical ties have laid a strong foundation for the current comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

Deepening Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

China and Algeria established a comprehensive strategic relationship in 2014, which has helped to the strengthening of political mutual trust and collaboration. Both countries have actively participated in cooperative efforts to build the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), resulting in substantial accomplishments and mutual advantages. President Tebboune’s state visit to China is scheduled to give an opportunity for the leaders to assess the BRI’s progress and discuss options for future cooperation.

Exploring Regional and International Issues

During the state visit, President Tebboune and Chinese leaders will engage in comprehensive discussions on regional and international issues of mutual interest. This dialogue aims to foster a deeper understanding between the two nations and identify areas of collaboration to address common challenges. The leaders will likely exchange views on topics such as trade, investment, security, and global governance, with the goal of strengthening their cooperation in various domains.

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s state visit to China marks an important milestone in the two countries’ bilateral relations. Both nations’ ties have grown stronger over the years, thanks to China’s early recognition of Algeria’s provisional government, the comprehensive strategic cooperation established in 2014, and their cooperative efforts under the Belt and Road Initiative. The conversations that will take place during this visit are expected to strengthen their cooperation and open the path for further collaboration on regional and international levels.
