In remarks to the French newspaper Les Echos and Politico made during his visit to China, Macron argued that Europe should not quicken.
The conflict but instead take the time to establish itself as a third pole between China and the United States.
The worst thing would be to believe that we Europeans must adopt this viewpoint and follow American trends or Chinese overreactions, he told Politico.
He was described by both media outlets as saying that in order for Europe to lessen its reliance on the United States.
It must better fund its defence sector, develop nuclear and renewable energy, and decrease its reliance on the U.S. dollar.
The group interview took place on a Friday trip between Beijing and Guangzhou.
An advisor to Macron told reporters in Guangzhou on Friday that Xi and Macron discussed Taiwan during their discussions in a “dense and frank” manner.
The Elysée aide stated, “The president feels that we should be cautious that there is no accident or an escalation of tensions (that could lead) to the Chinese going on the offensive.”
Airbus and the nuclear energy supplier EDF were part of the 50-person corporate delegation that travelled with Macron to China and signed agreements while there.
